About the Area
Historic Lockport is friendly and charming with all the local amenities you would expect. Close proximity to three major highways including the newly extended I-355 means everything is close by. Cedar Ridge is also within an hour of Chicago and all that a major city its size has to offer.
Worship
Lockport is home to numerous places of worship representing a diverse range of denominations. In 1834, the first church in the Lockport area conducted religious services in a log cabin; ten years later, the first frame church was erected. In 1878, there were already 10 churches in Lockport. Today, there are 134 Protestant churches, 24 Catholic churches and one Jewish synagogue, all located within 10 miles of the city. Lockport's faith community has grown with the town, and is a constant reminder of the strength and values inherent within.
Shopping
Lockport offers you a variety of shopping opportunities: Downtown Lockport features quaint boutique shops, Louis Joliet Mall is just a short drive west, and Orland Square Mall is just a short drive east of Cedar Ridge.
Recreation
A great area for recreation is Dellwood Park, a 150-acre recreation area with picnic facilities, sporting fields, indoor pool, tennis courts, sand volleyball, sled hills, and more. You can also tee off at Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club in Lockport, an 18-hole championship golf course designed by two-time U.S. Open Champion Andy North, along with Roger Packard. Located on 237 acres of rolling terrain, Prairie Bluff is framed with rolling prairie grass, adding to its overall challenge and beauty.
Medical
Just four miles from Lockport is a full facility health care provider, Silver Cross Hospital of Joliet. Founded in 1985, Silver Cross has evolved from a 33-bed not-for-profit hospital into a world-class healthcare network, serving the greater Joliet area with over 400 physicians, 1,500 employees, and more than 550 volunteers. Also in nearby Joliet, Provena St. Joseph Medical Center is a 510-bed facility that provides many advanced health care services typically found in a university hospital setting. The Saint Joseph Heart Center is an entire floor dedicated solely to the treatment of the heart and centered on the area's only open heart surgery program. From Provena's three state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs to its cardiovascular operating rooms to its cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation gymnasium, the heart team offers patients an advanced level of care that's unprecedented anywhere in the region.
Culture / Entertainment
Lockport's Historic District is part of the 120-mile long Illinois & Michigan Canal National Heritage Corridor. Lockport residents take advantage of the Rialto Square Theater in nearby Joliet. The Rialto is now considered one of the most architecturally significant theaters in the nation, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Also within easy access of Lockport are the multifarious cultural attractions of Chicago: The Field Museum, Museum of Science and Industry, Alder Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, Brookfield Zoo, the Art Institute of Chicago, and Navy Pier.
